TV decides when games are to be played. Here in Portugal this often not confirmed until ten days beforehand! The official league website is www.
There might be a bigger crowd than the normal 3, or so for this one and as the stadium only holds 4, it might be a good idea to pick up tickets in advance if you can.
Match starts at Parking on site if you get there early. I was advised to get to the ground and claim my seat 2 hours before the match because its a "big" match and limited capacity because of the rebuilding works which appear to have stopped.
Although your ticket has a seat and row number, this apparently means nothing.. Today I just wandered onto the ground and pitch, no one other except for the groundsman mowing the lush turf; dont think I could do this at the Emirates or even Gillingham.
At the Ground on the Sunday evening, we were guided to the ticket office by the very kind Porto Coach Driver who went totally out of his way to show us exactly where to buy tickets.
Like Deeg in the post above we were sold numbered tickets for the centre covered stand at 30 Euro and after being searched went in to claim our seats and found out it was a free for all.
Before sitting down I went in what I can only describe as a disgustingly filthy Gents toilet block and my wife advised that the Ladies were not exactly ideal either.
We avoided the bar and settled down centrally about 8 rows back from the pitch before being surrounded by cigarette smoking supporters.
The guy next to me arrived clutching 40 cigarettes and a pack of broad bean snacks. A mad DJ, local brass band and Camaro de Lobos folk dancers provided the pre-match entertainment.
Then, with bass drums pounding from the passionate crowd the game got underway in the half built stadium.
I wonder how the TV company presented the game because it was nowhere near English Football League standard and the cameras must have picked up the building works on 3 sides of the stadium.
We escaped with 5 minutes to go as the game petered out to a draw and were astounded to find the aisles and exit stairways blocked with spectators standing and sitting on the steps.
Thanks for taking the time to report back on your "adventure"at the stadium. Bet you will remember your trip their for the rest of your life!!.
Surprised you could see the game through all the smoke.. Bit better facilities at the Reebok Stadium but lacking in quality.
I got to the ground 1. Local supporters marching band, lots of drumming throughout and the Madeirian branch of Morris Dancers, with acorn caps entertaining?
Lots of smoking, people sitting in gangways, stewards doing nothing; lots of hostility towards opposition fans and president 3 large minders in tow ; no hostility towards me.
Maritimo should have taken lead in second half with 2 good breakaway chances. Porto were poor and only seemed to push near the end. Crowd reaction at final whistle you would have thought Maritimo had won.
Great experience, would go again. If you are in Madeira give it a go, more likely to be 20euros for non headline opposition. Bit of a contrast to the Algarve League game I watched yesterday.
The attendance at the Maritimo - Porto game was indeed officially a full house of They have run out of money to rebuild the stadium.

Note that it is an uphill walk to get to the stadium though. From the city centre, you can also take bus 8 or 45 to get to the stadium take the bus from de Avenida do Mar.
Buses tend to run once or twice an hour. Estadio do Maritimo is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood somewhat up the hill.
Funchal is packed with hotels so there is a choice for everyone. The larger hotels and resorts are a little further away, Enotel Quinta do Sol being the nearest, but many more choices just a little further away.
Click here for an overview of hotels in Funchal. Visited the stadium while on holiday Sept 16 and looks to be modern with great views over Funchal from behind stadium.
New floodlights being installed whilst I was there.
